Introduction to Basic Sewing

Duration: 4 hours Note: This class is taught in English but all handouts will be in English and Spanish. What you will learn in this class. - Basic understanding of how a sewing machine works. (Domestic and Industrial sewing machines) 1. Identifying the parts of the machine that are necessary for machine sewing. 2. Threading the machine (needle and bobbin). 3. Hand positioning. - Learn the following basic stitches: 1. Straight stitching 2. Curve stitching 3. Stitch on the ditch 4. Edge stitching 5. French seam 6. Convex and Concave seams What you will need in this class. - Domestic sewing machine (There are two available domestic machine that can be borrowed in class but this is first come, first serve. Please enquire before class.) - Fabric and snipping scissors (can be borrowed in class but please enquire first). Sewing thread, calico fabric or scraps and handouts (in English and Spanish) will be provided for exercises.
